Since 2007, for the last 13 years, the Mike’s Bike Shop cycling club has raised close to $250,000 in support of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Last year, not even a hurricane could stop us from riding to help make a difference in the lives of millions of people worldwide living with Type 1 Diabetes. But 2020 has turned out to be a very different year. Unprecedented in our lifetime. A global epidemic. Quarantine. Working from home. Social distancing. Everything has changed…
We’re all in this pandemic together. Containing and minimizing the spread of the Covid-19 virus is the responsibility of each and every one of us. Given the current circumstances, still very unsure how this whole thing will evolve, we feel that it simply isn’t feasible from a safety perspective to have our ride this year. For this reason, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Mike’s Bike Shop Cyclebetes ride to cure Type 1 Diabetes on Saturday, September 12th. Yes, it breaks our heart. But we truly believe that it’s the only responsible thing to do at this moment.
One of the only things that hasn’t changed in the last few months is Type 1 Diabetes. It can’t be put on hold. It can’t be cancelled. Even in the midst of a pandemic, Type 1 Diabetes still doesn’t go away. And in order to continue to help fund research for new treatments and a cure, I invite you to ride virtually, on your own and raise money for JDRF. Start by setting your ride goal. Then setup your own online fundraising page by clicking REGISTER NOW! on the following page: https://jdrfca.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.event&eventID=2535.
